My latest creation, “Kauai,” is for the Guest Designer Challenge at Scrap City. For the challenge you needed to follow this sketch by Sally Saenz. What I love about this sketch is its simple but effective way for showcasing five photos on a single page. The design draws your eye in but doesn’t overwhelm you. There’s a natural progression from left to right with the main photo standing out below. By having the main photo overlap the row of four photos your main photo is anchored and your eye has a natural stopping point. Be sure to check out Scrap City for more challenges and fun and visit Sally’s blog for other great sketches.

Hope you have a great week!

February Calendar Page

I finished my calendar page for February 2008 but I tried something different for this challenge instead of using the standard calendar format. I had a lot happen in February so there were several activities on certain days and the regular calendar format didn’t really work for showing more than one photo for a day.

I’m really struggling with this layout and it seems to lacking; but my husband encouraged me to upload it to be critiqued so I can learn and do better next time. Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated. I think I had a good idea but it just got lost in translation.

Altered Acrylic Frame

I love spring with all the blossoms and pretty colors and since I work all day in an office I like to bring spring inside to me. I made this altered frame to hang in my window at work. In this photo, the frame is hanging from my true-light desk lamp so you can get a feel for how it looks with back-lighting. I used lots of BasicGrey for this creation. The paper, rub-ons, and chipboard are from the new Sultry collection and the fiber is from the LilyKate line.

Signs of Spring

I took a walk around the neighborhood yesterday and took some photos of the flowers and trees that were in bloom. Amazingly there was no rain and the temperature was perfect for a light jacket. My favorite photos were of the Cherry Blossoms which are now in full bloom.  From my photos I created a quick layout using Bisous’ PDQ Candy paper and chipboard and stickers from BasicGrey’s new Sultry line.  Did I mention the Bisous paper rocks! With all the shading and extra details you can create a beautiful layout in less than 30 minutes but have the look of a layout that took hours to create.  For more inspiration and to see the entire Bisous product line, click here.

This week, my CT team at a Cherry on Top shows you the newest product lines from Daisy Bucket Designs. Be sure to check out the gorgeous layouts and latest CHA releases from Daisy Bucket Designs here! For my layouts I used the “Summer Cottage” line.  One of my favorite things about the “Summer Cottage” line is the soft, breezy feeling it provides. The first layout is of my friends Brenda & Erik. They were married last fall on the beach in Lincoln City, Oregon. This photo is right after they were married and getting ready to walk down the beach back to the reception room. I chose this photo for the different perspective it provides. The second layout is from our trip last year to Disneyland. I love the little character statues on Main Street and of course you guessed it, that’s me acting a little “Goofy”. Have a great week!!

I love BasicGrey

Yes, I really love BasicGrey. They come out with so many incredible lines. The colors and themes are rich and varied. I’m amazed by the versatility of their product and I always find new ways to use their designs. One of their newest releases is the Archaic line. It’s a great rugged boy line. One of the things that enticed me to this line was the dinosaurs. I’m not sure why I like them since I’m normally not a dinosaur fan but the ones by BasicGrey are too cute to resist. Here’s a layout and card I created with the Archaic line. To see all of BasicGrey’s awesome products click on the Archaic banner and check out their website.

One of my favorite songs right now is “It’s Not Over” by Daughtry. The lyrics and music really move me. I stumbled onto this homemade video by Bosphotoman. Just look at these images!! What stunning photography. Each time I watch this video I see something new. I’ve been inspired by the different techinques and perspectives used and I hope to try some of these techniques in my future photography.
